Community Workshops

BRINGING COMMUNITY LEADERS TOGETHER

To help achieve the main aims of the community core, a number of workshops have been planned and developed with our Community Partners - The American Heart Association & Healthy House. These workshops aim to bring together community leaders, public health officials from the counties of the San joaquin Valley region, legislators, health experts and scientists with the express view of learning from each others experiences and successes, while also reviewing ways to develop more effective policies at the local and State level.

  • Workshop 3 - The second of our workshops aimed specifically at CBOs, community partners, public health depts and legislative leaders, was led by Dr. Denise Payan of UC Merced and co-hosted with the American Heart Association: Held 12.06.2019
  • Workshop 4 Our summit, Connecting Communities Around Tobacco Policies, was co-hosted by the NCPC and the American Heart Association: Held 01.26.2023

The Spanish-led presentation given at our fifth workshop "DALE LUZ A LA SALUD, NO AL CIGARRO" by Dr. Arturo Durazo of the Nicotine and Cannabis Policy Center is below, which was adapted from the UC Merced NCPC General Presentation. From the California Health Collaborative, Celeste Ramos, Project Coordinator of Unidos Por Salud Program and Sauci Xiong, Project Coordinator of API PACT Program, presented on the tobacco industries’ marketing strategies that motivate youth to become their new tobacco and nicotine products consumers. Click each presentation image to download the file.

WORKSHOP 6 PRESENTATIONS

The presentations given at our sixth workshop "JUNE TOBACCO SUMMIT" by Dr. Arturo Durazo of the Nicotine and Cannabis Policy Center is below, which was adapted from the UC Merced NCPC General Presentation. From the University of California, Merced is Natalie Beylin, a Graduate Student Researcher with the Nicotine and Cannabis Policy Center who presented on qualitative insights on tobacco control from community collaborators in rural California. Also with the Nicotine and Cannabis Policy Center is Dr. Sara Schneider, a Postdoctoral Scholar with the Nicotine and Cannabis Policy Center who presented on the conditions necessary to have a healthy cannabis marketplace.
